Beat Dyslexia With Parent Power Why Sight Words and Pattern Recognition Are So Important

Beating Dyslexia With Parent Power
Having Dyslexia is a complex challenge for a student and their parents

Schools tend to use phonics-based programs for students with Dyslexia -- the challenge is for students with Dyslexia, they often struggle with sight words and pattern recognition

As Dr. Linda Silverman writes in her book “Upside Down Brilliance”, “Phonics instruction does not need to be eliminated altogether, but sight word vocabulary needs to be built first. Then whole words or syllables can be compared and the pattern recognition capacities of the visual-spatial learner can be brought to bear”.

Once the student can create pictures for sight words and can recognize words they have seen before, they can become better readers

At 3D Learner, we recognize that phonics is important, but we first work on
Sight word vocabulary -- words like the, a, but, and, except

Pattern Recognition -- being able to remember words you have seen

Attention -- inability to pay attention to that which is boring

Visual motor integration -- making sure the eyes are doing what they should and that the brain is effectively integrating the info

Boosting self-esteem

Helping parents help their child

Integrating efforts with schools and other professionals

We believe Beating Dyslexia starts with sight word vocabulary and pattern recognition and informed and empowered parents
