At 3D Learner, we often get responses that impact many parents and wanted to respond to the following comment we got from a committed mom:

I have asked my son's special educational teachers to give him a diagnosis but all they tell me is he has a learning disability and will some day catch up with his peers".

Dr. Reid Lyons, Chief of the Child Development and Behavior Branch at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and several other luminaries wrote a major article that highlighted 3 key issues based on historical observations:

1- Almost 90% of the 1st graders with word identification issues were poor readers in 4th grade

2- Over 70% of the 3rd graders with a reading disability (dyslexia) were still identified with a reading disability (dyslexia) in 12th grade

3- Given what is now known about Learning Disabilities it is irresponsible to continue present policies that dictate inadequate identification practices

This article makes a compelling case why parents and grandparents need to be proactive in helping their children and grandchildren and not assume that everything will be OK.

We believe the 6 biggest challenges are:
a. 38% of the students learn best when they see and experience information and neither traditional assessments nor teaching methods effectively address these students’ needs. We will have a Free Teleconference on September 1st at 9:15 pm EST dedicated to this issue. Please e-mail success@3dlearner.com and put Risks and Opportunities in the subject line if you would either like to be on this call or want to receive valuable new information on the Risks and Opportunities these students face. Alternatively call us at 954-341-2578

b. Assessments and Labels– On September 7th at 9:15 pm EST we will review the risks with present assessments and why is it so important to understand how your child learns best, their strengths and issues and why the right vision assessment is so critical. We will also discuss how ADHD can be used to quickly and effectively get an Individual Education Plan and why positive labels are so helpful to both parents and students – we label these students GOLD Student ® or

G ifted O perating with a L earning D ifference

c. A large percentage of these students (e.g. 64% of the visual learners we have seen) have significant vision issues and they are often missed by schools and even by professionals. The three key issues we see that are missed are:

i. Tracking problems when reading where the child skips words or lines

ii. Difficulty copying off the board

iii. Problems with visual memory (e.g. spelling words, math facts)

On our assessment Teleclass we will discuss why school evaluations may be misleading and what a parent may want to consider

d. Medication is often seen as the only route for Attention issues. We see Brain Gym ®, Primal Reflexes®, the Interactive Metronome ® and new emerging technologies as being very promising. We will have a Free Teleconference in the near future dedicated to this issue. Please e-mail success@3dlearner.com and put Attention in the subject line if you would either like to be on this call or want to receive valuable new information in this area. Alternatively call us at 954-341-2578

e. Self-esteem and anxiety issues – we keep reading about the skyrocketing incidence of anxiety and depression. This is a major problem that continues to worsen as the system puts more pressure on students and parents. We will have a Free Teleconference on September 21st at 9:15 pm EST dedicated to this issue. Please e-mail success@3dlearner.com and put Self-esteem in the subject line if you would either like to be on this call or want to receive valuable new information on Self-esteem. Alternatively call us at 954-341-2578
